Young people meet at Earth Hour pre-party in the Energy Gallery

Helsingin Energia will open the Energy Gallery for young people on the Earth Hour evening this Saturday, 29 March. The youngsters will organise an Earth Hour pre-party at the energy exhibition on the third floor of Sähkötalo. The objective is to inspire more young people to take part in the fight against climate change.

At the Energy Gallery, young people will organise workshops to develop memes, inspiring to save energy in viral form, and run a waste food stand in protest against food waste.

They will also pedal energy-generating spinning bikes, and if they reach the set target, Helsingin Energia will donate a maximum of 5,000 euros to the Youth Department of the City of Helsinki. This money will be spent on the energy-efficiency refurbishment of the largest youth centre in Helsinki, the Youth Activity Centre Happi in Sörnäinen). The energy audit and the required modifications will be carried out by the youngsters themselves. The pace for the energetic cycling event will be set by the rap group Gasellit.

The Earth Hour pre-party at the Energy Gallery will start at 5 pm and finish when the lights are turned off at the start of the Earth Hour at 8.30 pm.

The event is organised by sixth-formers who take part in Safari, the community involvement project for young people.

Earth Hour switches lights off

Helsingin Energia is taking part in WWF’s Earth Hour event, which raises awareness of the climate change, by switching the lights off at its main office in Sähkötalo, on the chimney stack of the Alppila heating plant and at the Kruununvuorenranta oil silo.

We will tell on Facebook and Twitter of any impact of the Earth Hour on electricity consumption in the Helsinki region. You can also monitor the energy consumption levels in Helsinki at www.helen.fi.
