Origin of district heat
The production of district heat by Helsingin Energia was divided into the following energy sources:
2011 Natural gas 51 % Procurement of district heat in 2011 amounted to 6,871 GWh. 93 % of the district heat in Helsinki was produced by CHP. The CO2 specific emission of the district heat energy used in construction was 98 g/kWh.

2010 Natural gas 51 % Procurement of district heat in 2010 amounted to 7,850 GWh. 85% of the district heat in Helsinki was produced by CHP. The CO2 specific emission of the district heat energy used in construction was 113 g/kWh.
