Energy production outside Helsinki
Helsingin Energia has energy production in its associated companies located outside Helsinki.
Nuclear power from Olkiluoto
In the Olkiluoto plants of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj, energy is produced by nuclear power. The production and availability of the plant are top grade.
Currently, the Olkiluoto 3 plant is under construction.
Suomen Hyötytuuli Oyj is the leading wind energy producer in Finland. The company is owned by nine city energy companies. Wind power is produced at the Raahe and Pori wind farms. Helsingin Energia also obtains wind power from TVO’s Olkiluoto wind power plant and the wind power production of Tunturituuli.
Hydroelectric power from the rivers Kemijoki, Kymijoki and Lieksanjoki
Helsingin Energia obtains hydroelectric power through Etelä-Pohjanmaan Voima Oy and Kemijoki Oy. Kemijoki owns 20 hydropower plants, 16 of which are located in the River Kemijoki water system, two along the River Lieksanjoki and two on the River Kymijoki.
New hydroelectric power plants are not under construction, but investments are made to upgrade the existing hydropower plants. The upgrades will increase the annual production of renewable and emission-free energy to 240 GWh by 2017.
