Vuosaari power plants

Most of the electricity and district heat sold by Helsingin Energia each year is produced in the Vuosaari A and B power plants. The plants were built in the 1990s, and due to their production technology they are among the most efficient and cleanest plants in the world. The production output of the plants is 630 MW of electricity and 580 MW of district heat.

The source of energy used at Vuosaari is natural gas. The Vuosaari power plants are so-called combined cycle power plants, in which the energy-producing gas and steam turbine processes are combined. Due to the combined cycle technology, the efficiency of the plants is over 90%, which means that almost all of the energy of natural gas can be utilised in production. This saves both the environment and production costs.

The international environmental certificate ISO 14001 was granted to the environmental management system of the Vuosaari power plants in 2002.
