KotiSpot electricity contract

The KotiSpot contract is intended for household customers. The price of the contract is directly determined by the market price of electricity. Because the contract is valid until further notice, the customer can revert to the other electricity products of Helsingin Energia at any time.

The price is determined by the market price

Energy prices are determined on the basis of the price that the Nordic Power Exchange has quoted for the Finnish price area so that the average energy price for each month is obtained by weighing the prices, on an hourly basis, by the values of the type-load curve that the distribution system operator has selected for the customer, and by adding to the value thus obtained the value added tax and margin valid at any given time.

If the customer’s electricity consumption is metered and registered on an hourly basis, the hourly metering data are used in invoicing.

The KotiSpot electricity contract works best, when the customer’s monthly meter readings are used.  The monthly electricity bill will then be based on the real electricity consumption of the month and the average price for the month concerned.

For customers who want to buy electricity at the market price

The KotiSpot electricity contract is a good choice when the market price starts to fall sharply, for example, when emission allowance prices fall or when there are rapid changes in the water situation.  The prices of the other electricity products do not necessarily respond as quickly to a price reduction as the KotiSpot electricity contract. In the contrary case, the prices of the KotiSpot electricity contract are the first to start rising.  The customer should be aware of this risk.

The Nordic water reservoirs, the EU-level emissions trading scheme launched at the start of 2005 and the development of fuels prices and other production costs affect  the price level of wholesale electricity.

Actual monthly prices of the KotiSpot electricity contract

In the contract, the price consists of the basic charge and the price of energy. The price of energy is calculated as a monthly average price. The energy prices are determined from the price that the Nordic electricity exchange (Nord Pool) has quoted for the Finnish price area as follows: the monthly average price is obtained by weighting the prices by the hour with the values of the type load curve selected for the customer by the distribution system operator. The value added tax and margin valid at any given time will also be added to the value thus obtained. The prices presented in the following tables include 23% of value added tax, but not the margin or the basic charge.
