Climate-friendly environmental penny electricity
You will have the opportunity to contribute to increasing the use of renewable energy forms by acquiring environmental penny electricity from Helsingin Energia.
You will annually get 1,000 kWh of electricity generated by either wind power or ‘museum hydropower’, according to your own choice.
Today, the total number of environmental penny customers is 5788. 5167 of them have chosen wind power and 621 museum hydropower. The balance of the Penny for the Environment account was € 31.12.2011 on 1 388 144,81.
Clean production – renewable energy
Environmental penny electricity is produced by clean technology. By buying it, you will support environmental protection. Environmental penny electricity combines two ideas: electricity produced by clean technology and further building of environmentally friendly production.
The proceeds promote environmental protection
Environmental penny electricity costs € 1.69 /month than ‘normal’ electricity. The price will be debited as a basic fee in connection with your electricity bill. Helsingin Energia pays € 3.38 per each customer into the Penny for the Environment Account. All the money accruing into this account is steered to environmentally sound projects. The Environmental Penny Committee has decided to use the money to build an off-shore wind farm called Merituulipuisto. The offshore wind farm will be built in the Tahkoluoto sea area off the coast of Pori. For further information on the subject, please refer to www.hyotytuuli.fi
Choose for yourself: museum hydropower or wind power
Helsingin Energia’s environmental penny electricity is produced in two ways: in the Vanhankaupunginkoski museum hydropower plant in Helsinki and in the wind farms of Meri-Pori and Raahe. You can choose for yourself, if you want electricity generated by wind power or hydropower.
The production capacity of museum hydropower is sufficient to meet the demand of 500 customers, and we have reserved electricity generated by wind power for 6,400 customers.
Monitor the monthly electricity production figures of the Vanhankaupunginkoski museum hydropower plant. One MWh equals the annual share of environmental penny electricity of one museum hydropower customer.
