HelenOutdoorLighting

HelenOutdorLighting met its result targets, energy-efficiency was emphasised in operations

The turnover of HelenOutdoorLighting was EUR 18.9 million. Lighting design operations were sold to Suomen Energia-Urakointi Oy as a transfer of assets at the beginning of the operating year. The employees of HelenOutydoorLighting moved from Helsingin Energia's Main Building and the Myllypuro premises to common business premises located in a former substation building in the Viikinmäki district.

Energy-efficiency requirements concerning lighting were highlighted in the EU. Due to active interaction a realistic transition period was achieved for increasing eco-efficient lighting and for carrying it out as a reasonable replacement investment.

Construction activity increased

As far as projects are concerned, we focused on refining the practices required by the new design process. Another important challenge was and will continue to be defining the product range according to the principles of energy-efficiency, sustainable development and a decent product range.

There was a clear increase in investments over the previous year due to the launch of new area development projects in the operating year. Almost 200 new lighting sites were completed during the year. The number of new lighting points constructed on these sites and old lighting points renovated was 3,200.

Fault reporting system - an established custom

A total of 5,200 faults were reported. The fault reporting system of HelenOutdoorLighting, which functions as an Internet application and is open to all citizens, has proved to be very handy in the management of the fault data base, and thanks to it, we have succeeded in effectively minimising delays in the handling of notifications. The average fault repair time was slightly more than 30 days. Our challenge is to reduce the wide dispersion among single repair times. As to the proportion of lighting points that were functioning properly, we achieved the goal set, in other words, 97.5% of the lighting points were in order.

Negotiations concerning lighting arrangements in the area annexed to Helsinki were carried out with the municipality of Sipoo. Because no decision on the ownership of the infrastructure was made at the municipal level by the end of the review year, a temporary operating model was prepared in order to ensure the provision of lighting services to the residents of the annexed area.

100,000 LED light bulbs were installed as so-called winter lights on trees in the Esplanade Park in Helsinki. We were delighted to receive plenty of positive feedback from the inhabitants of Helsinki and capital city visitors.
