HelenEngineering
Turnover increased, the result fell slightly short of the target
The turnover of HelenEngineering was approx. EUR 6 million, up 20% over the previous year. 70% of the turnover came from orders carried out for the other businesses of Helsingin Energia. External turnover accounted for 30% of the total turnover.
The remit of HelenEngineering is to generate competitive advantage for the other businesses of Helsingin Energia by implementing projects in a cost-efficient manner and in the interest of the company. Projects are also implemented for customers outside the Helen Group, which serves to raise our competence level. The focus of project activity improvement is on customer orientation and developing a common operation mode within the company.
Employee competence was increased through extensive training in the operating year. In addition, the IPMA (International Project Management Association) certification of project managers was introduced. It illustrates the competence of project personnel at the international level.
Among Helsingin Energia's key investment projects during the review year were the Hanasaari energy supply area, where the coal storage and logistics planning progressed in terms of feasibility and location planning, modernisation of the Patola and Munkkisaari heating plants, construction of the Hanasaari heating plant and the Kamppi-Erottaja-Kruununhaka multi-utility tunnel. Modernisation of turbine 4 of the Hanasaari B power plant, which will increase the power plant's output capacity, was implemented during the year under review.
The biggest external orders were related to the planning and construction of electrical power systems and telecommunications networks for the Vuosaari Harbour, construction and mapping services for Helen Sähköverkko Oy, quality control of the new Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, process construction of Finavia's glycol store and the hydropower plants of Oy Mankala Ab. We also implemented projects for Helsinki Water.
HelenEngineering provides project and consulting services related to energy production to energy companies operating in Finland. The information and experiences we have gained in the design, construction and operation of Helsingin Energia's own power plants cover the entire life-cycles of production facilities. HelenEngineering had 61 employees at the end of 2008.
