Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy

Ten years of wind power production in Finland

Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy is the leading wind energy producer in Finland. It is owned equally by nine Finnish city energy companies. In addition to wind power production, the company's operations include marketing, research and product development.

In the year under review, Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy produced 56 GWh of electricity, 31,2 GWh at the Pori wind farm and 24,8 GWh in Raahe. The company produced about one-third of Finland's wind power. In 2008, Helsingin Energia acquired 5,93 GWh of wind energy through the company.

Suomen Hyötytuuli celebrated its tenth anniversary on 16 May 2008. Projects to expand its wind farms in Pori and Raahe are under way. The plans include an expansion of the existing wind farm in Raahe and the building of an offshore wind farm in Pori.

Decisions on expanding wind power production in Raahe will be made once public funding for the project has been ensured. Bird surveys pertaining to the environmental impact assessment of the project were carried out with respect to the Pori offshore wind farm in summer 2008.
