Kemijoki Oy
Production record of hydropower generation
Kemijoki Oy is Finland's most significant producer of hydropower and related services. The company owns 20 hydropower plants, 16 of which are located in the River Kemijoki water system, two along the River Lieksanjoki and two on the River Kymijoki. It also regulates the Lokka and Porttipahta reservoirs, as well as Lake Kemijärvi and Lake Olkkajärvi. The electrical energy produced by the power plants is transmitted to the company's hydropower shareholders.
The total amount of electricity produced by the hydropower plants was 5,447 GWh: 5,016 GWh by the power plants in the Kemijoki water system, 255 GWh by the plants on the River Kymijoki, and 177 GWh by the plants on the River Lieksanjoki. An all time high over all production exeeded the average hydropower production level with 24%. The former production record was achieved in 1992 and was 5,054 GWh.
The company invests in significant upgrades, which by 2017 will provide 290 MW of extra output capacity in a cost-effective way. The upgrades will increase the annual production of renewable and emission-free energy by 290 GWh.
