New energy tunnels were completed

In addition to Helsingin Energia's district heating and district cooling pipelines, the energy tunnels contain 110 kV cables, medium-voltage cables and optical data transfer cables of Helen Sähköverkko Oy, as well as the main pipelines of Helsinki Water. The numbers of tunnels and pipelines and cables positioned in them continued to grow during the operating year.

Three new tunnels, the Kamppi-Erottaja-Kruununhaka energy tunnel, the Munkkisaari energy tunnel and the Viikinmäki energy tunnel were included in the balance sheet of HelenTunnels as of 31 December 2008. The total length of the new tunnels included in the balance sheet is 5 kilometres.

The excavation of the first and second stage of the Meilahti-Pasila-Käpylä energy tunnel was completed, and third stage was started in autumn 2008. After the completion of the tunnel in the current year, the total length of the energy tunnels will increase by almost 5 more kilometres, to almost 50 kilometres.

The result for the financial year guaranteed the continuity of operations and a competitive rent level for the owner.

Tunnel safety training was provided to some 200 persons. The tunnels were visited approx. 7,000 times during the operating year.
