Change of CEO at Helen

Helen will have a change of CEO in January 2023 when Helen’s current CEO Juha-Pekka Weckström moves on to new tasks outside the company. The company’s Board of Directors has appointed Olli Sirkka as the new CEO, and he will take on his new role on 16 January 2023.

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted investment aid for Helen’s new heat pump plant in Eiranranta

Helen is building a new heat pump plant in South Helsinki to produce carbon-neutral district heat and district cooling from the waste energy of purified waste water. In the highly efficient plant, heat is produced from water with exceptionally low temperature. This water has already previously been utilised in district heat production in the Katri Vala heating and cooling plant. The total value of the investment is about EUR 100 million, and it has been granted about EUR 14.5 million of energy

Helen continues investing in solar energy production by acquiring turn-key solar power plant in Uusikaupunki

Helen is acquiring a -turn-key 206 MWp solar power plant located in Kalanti, Uusikaupunki, in south-west Finland. The solar power plant was sold and will be subsequently constructed by the international solar developer ib vogt. The solar farm has an annual energy production of more than 200 GWh and is at a location where solar radiation levels are similar to northern Germany. The solar power plant will be fully owned by Helen.

Helen’s public EV charging network expands – high-power charging stations operating on wind power to be available at Puuilo stores

In future, charging of electric vehicles can be done easily while doing your shopping when Helen opens new charging stations in connection with outlets of the Puuilo department store chain. Rapid high-power charging stations will become part of our growing EV charging network, and they will be available to all users of Helen Lataus.

Heat production started in Vuosaari bioenergy heating plant – adaptable hybrid plant offers top-class energy efficiency

Heat production in the Vuosaari bioenergy heating plant has started on schedule in the heating period 2022–2023. Wind power is a fundamental pillar of a sustainable energy system

2022 has been a triumphant year for wind power at Helen. The 20 wind turbines at our Lakiakangas 3 wind farm started regular electricity production in April and the seven turbines in Juurakko in November, and we have also reported on three other large-scale wind power investments in the Kalistanneva, Karahka and Niinimäki wind farms during the year. Helen’s total volume of electricity produced by wind power is also increased by Suomen Hyötytuuli’s investments in the Oosinselkä and Siikajoki

Helen's first hydrogen plant is designed by Sweco

Helen has chosen Sweco for conducting the basic engineering of the 3H2 – Helsinki Hydrogen Hub in Vuosaari. With this hydrogen production pilot project, Helen aims to create the necessary capabilities for large-scale Power-to-X production. The 3H2 project aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in transport and district heat production by up to 70,000 tons over the plant's 20-year lifecycle.

Helen accelerates wind power investments – New wind farm to Eastern Finland

Helen has agreed together with Ålandsbanken Wind Power Fund and OX2 on the construction of a 145 MW wind farm in Pieksämäki. A total of 22 wind turbines will be built in the Niinimäki wind farm which, once completed, will be the largest wind farm in Eastern Finland.
