INVESTMENTS IN EMISSIONS REDUCTION AND RENEWABLE ENERGY
The environmental investments of Helen Ltd amounted to about EUR 17.7 million in 2016, representing one-third of all our investments.
The biggest environmental investments during the year were related to increasing pellet combustion (EUR 8.2 million), reducing flue gas emissions (EUR 4.5 million) and building heat pumps (EUR 2.3 million).
ENVIRONMENTAL COSTS INCREASED
Environmental costs increased slightly on the previous year, standing at EUR 18.2 million (EUR 16.6 million). Environmental costs represented 2.9% of total costs (2.9%).
Flue gas cleaning (EUR 5.3 million), and waste management and the utilisation and final disposal of by-products (EUR 4.1 million) accounted for the highest environmental costs. We managed to keep the nitrogen oxide emissions at the previous level by increasing the efficiency of denitrification.
