The construction work on the Lakiakangas 3 wind farm is making rapid progress. Currently, as many as seven wind turbines are producing clean wind power. By the end of January, all 20 wind turbines of the wind farm will be in production use.

Construction of geothermal heating plant under way in Ruskeasuo, Helsinki, drilling of heat well to begin in September
The drilling of Helsinki's first medium-depth geothermal well is set to start in Ruskeasuo at the beginning of September. The Ruskeasuo geothermal plant will serve as Helen's pilot site, where drilling technology and other technical solutions for new geothermal sites are tested and developed.
Helen has carried out a feasibility study on various alternatives of utilising seawater as a source of heat for industrial-scale heat pumps in Helsinki. The project is now progressing to the environmental impact assessment stage. In June, a public presentation meeting on the project will be held as a webinar.
As a result of an agreement signed by the real estate asset management company Sponda and Helen, 100% of the electricity consumption of Sponda’s properties will be covered with emission-free wind power. The agreement supports Sponda’s objective of carbon neutrality.
Carbon-neutral district heat from the waste heat of data centres: homes in Helsinki to be heated by Telia’s data centre
Telia and the energy company Helen have agreed on the utilisation of heat produced in a data centre. According to the plans, waste heat collected from Telia’s modern data centre in Pitäjänmäki will be transmitted into the district heating network for distribution to homes and properties in Helsinki as from June 2022. In future, the data centre can provide heat for the homes of more than 20,000 Helsinki residents.
Helen is strengthening its position in the wind power market: looking for European growth companies in addition to Finnish wind farm investments
Helen’s wind power production will increase five-fold as a result of its wind farm investments last year. The company is still seeking new, interesting wind farm projects in Finland. It is also studying several potential investment projects in European growth companies in the wind power sector.
In a unique pilot project of Helen and Paulig, the waste heat of Paulig’s coffee roastery is recovered and utilised in the heating of homes in Helsinki. Today, the project was presented with the Energy Genius of the Year award, which is granted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Energy Authority, and the state-owned sustainable development company Motiva.
Helen installs almost 50 new EV charging points utilising wind power at sports facilities in Helsinki
The number of public charging points in Helsinki will rise to well over 200 when new electric vehicle charging points are installed at 13 leisure facilities of the City of Helsinki. The new charging points will be ready for use by the end of the year. Vehicles are charged with renewable wind power at all Helen’s public electric vehicle charging points.
Helen to significantly increase its wind power production – total investment of EUR 100 million in a new wind farm
Helen has started the construction work of the Lakiakangas 3 wind farm in Ostrobothnia in partnership with the project developer CPC Finland. The project supports Helen’s target to increase wind power production fivefold in two years. Energy generated by the new wind farm will be available to Helen’s customers in 2022.
