The reliability of the electricity and district heating networks is at a record level in Helsinki. Last year, the average power cut lasted 1.2 minutes per Helsinki resident. The excellent reliability rate is the highest in Europe. In the district heating network, the number of leaks in 2020 was also record low. Long-term development of distribution networks is now reaping benefits.
Helen has started to fill Finland’s largest heat storage facility with water. The heat caverns located underground in Mustikkamaa are a unique case even on a global scale and an important step on the carbon neutral path of Helsinki.
The energy fee for district heat for the spring season will decrease from the same period last year by 6%. The energy fee for the period 1 May – 30 September 2020 will be 34,87 e/MWh (including VAT 24%).
The energy fee for district heat for the winter season will decrease from the same period last year by 10.4%. The energy fee for the period 1 January – 29 February 2020 will be 65,92 e/MWh (including VAT 24%)
The energy fee for district heat for the autumn season will decrease from the same period last year by 7.8% and the water flow fee will increase by 6.7% as from 1 October 2019. As a result, the total price for district heat will fall by an average of 4.2%.
Helen Ltd, Vantaa Energy Ltd and Lahti Energia Oy have decided to sell their shares in Suomen Energia-Urakointi Oy to KSS Energia Oy. The contracting company will continue its operations as a subsidiary of KSS Energia from the beginning of May.
The amount of excise duty for district heat rises 1.1.2019.
The district heat water flow fee will rise by 7.2% as from 1 October 2018. The average impact of the change in the water flow fee on the total price of district heat is 1.7%.
In the next few years, Helen will make significant investments in reducing emissions and increasing the share of renewable energy. Helen aims to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of energy production by 40 per cent by 2025 compared with the 1990 levels. The use of coal will be halved at the same time. The longer-term target is climate-neutral energy production.
