New substation improves security of electricity supply in Lauttasaari

The new substation in Lauttasaari will be inaugurated tomorrow, 26 September. The substation is located next door to apartment blocks in Vattuniemenkatu.

Helen Sähköverkko Oy will inaugurate a new 110/10.5 kV substation in Lauttasaari, Helsinki, to safeguard the security of electricity supply in the area. The new substation was built in Vattuniementie in Lauttasaari as the nearby areas, Ruoholahti and Jätkäsaari, are growing at a rapid pace. The new station will also serve the forthcoming extension of the metro line.

The substation is in a central location in the middle of residential and commercial properties. The location and other environmental factors have been given particular attention in the architectural design of the building. For example, the cooling system of the main transformers is designed to be as quiet and energy efficient as possible.

Helen Sähköverkko Oy invests annually EUR 40–50 million in the development of the electricity network in the Helsinki region. Investment is required for the needs of the growing city and for the upgrade of the electricity network. It is also used for improving the security of supply in the electricity network.
