District cooling records were broken

Last week, the properties with district cooling in Helsinki enjoyed suitably cool indoor temperatures, despite the summer heat prevailing outside the buildings.

Records were broken again: on Wednesday alone, 800 of renewable district heat was produced for district cooling customers. 800 MWh corresponds to the daily tap water requirement of 1,500 apartment blocks.

The renewable district heat produced with district cooling is returned to the properties connected to the district heating and cooling systems for utilisation.  In other words, the share of renewable district heat has increased significantly especially in office and commercial properties cooled with district cooling. District cooling of properties is rapidly expanding, however. Today, district cooling is available for most residential properties in Central Helsinki.
