Skanska chose district heating and cooling for its new headquarters, because its aim was to make the building as energy efficient as possible.

Energy efficiency resulted in environmental certification

Recently the headquarters received the highest, platinum level in LEED environmental certification. The recognition was granted above all for the building's energy efficiency. All four office buildings in the Manskun Rasti complex also fulfil the EU GreenBuilding Programme’s requirements; in other words, their energy efficiency is at least 25 per cent lower than what the current building regulations state.

In March 2012, Skanska received Helsingin Energia’s Vuoden Kauko commendation in the annual district heating and cooling stakeholder seminar. The commendation is given to a person who or an organisation which has promoted energy efficient district heating and cooling utilisation.

Skanska has aimed to minimise the environmental impact of its operations and choices. It provides Helsinki residents with efficient district heating and cooling and produces safe and healthy facilities with progressive building technologies. Skanska has shown exceptional initiative by bringing together environmental certification and energy saving in properties and the control of interior temperature conditions in buildings through intelligent district heating and cooling solutions.
