Smart Control – savings on heating and charging costs

With the free Smart Control service, you can automatically control the electricity consumption of your home appliances at the lowest-priced periods of exchange electricity and save on your electricity bill. Implemented via Synergi, Smart Control supports more than 400 device models without separate installations.

Synergi’s free Smart Control automatically optimises the electricity consumption of your home appliances for heating and cooling as well as charging your electric car at home at the lowest-priced periods of exchange electricity. Simply connect your device to the app using your device manufacturer’s credentials, select your settings and enjoy savings – without compromising on your living comfort.
The free service offers the best benefits for households with electric heating or households that charge an electric car at home. All you need for Smart Control is the Synergi mobile app and a compatible device, such as an electric car or an air source heat pump with Wi-Fi.

How to start using Smart Control

Synergi Smart Control supports more than 400 brands and models without separate installations. The device is connected to the application with the device manufacturer’s credentials using cloud services. Start by checking compatibility in the menu at the top of the page.
Add Smart Control as an additional service to your contract
To enable Smart Control, first add it as an additional service to your Helen electricity contract. Smart Control is completely free of charge.
Download the Synergi app from your app store and create an account
Then download the Synergi app from your phone’s app store for free. To activate the app, create a user account and select Helen as your electricity company.
Easily connect your devices
Connect your device to Smart Control in less than five minutes using your device manufacturer’s credentials. The device is connected via a cloud service, and no specific car charger or separate accessories for an air source heat pump, for example, are required.
Configure Smart Control
Use the app to activate smart climate control or smart charging for the devices you have added. Also set your preferred limits for heating and cooling appliance temperatures and vehicle charging timing.

Smart Control automatically controls the consumption of your devices, such as an air source heat pump or an electric vehicle, to take place during the most affordable times of exchange electricity. Set the desired settings in the app (e.g. interior temperature or time when the vehicle should be charged) and save money without manual adjustment. Read more below about how the different Smart Control features work.
Smart Charging
Smart Charging automatically controls the charging of your vehicle so that it takes place at the most affordable and quietest times in the electricity grid. Therefore, you can connect your car to a charger when you come home and rely on it being charged as cheaply as possible.
To enable Smart Charging in the Synergi app:
- Connect the vehicle to the app using your vehicle manufacturer’s app credentials
- Click Smart Charging on
- In the app, set the time when you want the charging to be finished daily
- You can always start the charging process immediately with the “Charge full now” function
Synergi will only control your charging at locations that you have saved in the app, such as your home or cottage. So keeping Smart Charging on never interferes with your charging process, for example at the workplace or at public charging stations. The app uses the limit you set in the car manufacturer’s app as the charging limit.
Save money and earn bonus points
You can achieve savings of up to 50% or €300* with Smart Charging. The savings have been calculated by comparing the consumption of exchange electricity with and without Smart Charging, i.e. the charging would have started normally as soon as the charger is connected.
*The highest savings achieved by a Synergi user with Smart Charging in 2024 during a total of 255 smart charging sessions.
In addition to the savings, you will also earn bonus points in the app for supporting the electricity network, which you can later redeem as monetary rewards via the Synergi app. In this way, you do not only save on the costs of exchange electricity when using Smart Charging, but also contribute to the balancing of the electricity network. During a network support event, the app displays the message “network support in progress” and charging is temporarily interrupted, usually only for a few minutes, or it starts earlier. Network support is always provided within the charging time limit you set in the app.
Please note that network balancing only applies to pausing or starting the charging process earlier - Smart Charging therefore never discharges energy from your car back into the network.
Smart Heating & Cooling
Smart Heating & Cooling optimises your heating or cooling equipment to operate at the most affordable times for exchange electricity.
To enable Smart Heating & Cooling in the Synergi app:
- Connect your heating or cooling appliance to the app using the device manufacturer’s credentials, if you have a Wi-Fi-supported device. You can also connect the appliance using the remote control by connecting the remote control such as Sensibo or Tado to the app.
- Click Smart Climate on
- In the app, set the target temperature according to which you want your appliance to heat or cool.
Synergi controls the unit so that there is no heating or cooling during the most expensive hours of exchange electricity, without compromising your living comfort. If the electricity is less than 3 cents/kWh all day, the appliance will work all day to reach your ideal temperature.

Oma Helen is Helen’s online service that allows you to monitor your energy consumption and production comprehensively, down to the fifteen-minute level. The service also makes it easy to manage your electricity contract and related services.
Synergi, on the other hand, is a smart control service that helps you to control and optimise your electricity consumption. For example, the service controls the charging of an electric vehicle or heating and cooling to take place during the most affordable times based on the electricity price - this way, you can use electricity in an optimised way and save on your electricity costs.

Yes, the app is safe to use and Synergi places data protection and security first. Synergi does not store device login information, i.e. username or password, in its systems. You can view Synergi’s privacy policy here.
You can easily terminate the service in two steps:
- Cancel the Smart Control additional service from your electricity contract through our customer service. Please note that the notice period is 14 days.
