Suvilahti solar power plant was commissioned

Finland’s largest solar power plant on completion was commissioned in the Suvilahti district of Helsinki in March.

The plant increased the total solar electricity output connected to the grid in Finland by over 10 per cent.

Helen wins esteemed energy award

Helen’s combined district heating and cooling solution won the esteemed Global District Energy Climate Award.

Pellet system built in Hanasaari

Two pellet silos of 500 cubic metres, conveyor systems and pellet feeding equipment were built in the Hanasaari power plant area.

With the pellet system, 5–7 per cent of coal used by the power plant can be replaced with wood pellets. A similar pellet system was introduced at the Salmisaari power plant already at the end of 2014.

New landmark Viikin Keltakoipi for Lahdenväylä motorway

The new landscape portal by the substation located next to the Lahdenväylä motorway was named Viikin Keltakoipi (the Yellow Legs of Viikki). The naming competition held among Helen’s customers received over 750 suggestions.

Grants for world’s best city energy were awarded

In the summer, we donated EUR 3,000 to ten Finnish events that created positive city energy.

Sale of solar panels in Kivikko was launched

Helen is building a solar power plant in the Kivikko district of Helsinki. Once completed, it will be the biggest solar power plant in Finland. Almost a third of the up to 3,000 solar panels of the Kivikko solar power plant were sold in just a few days. The solar power plant will be completed in spring 2016.

In the pilot project, new opportunities offered by a megawatt-scale electricity storage facility will be tested: flexible intermediate storage of electricity and new business models.
