Electricity contract for the estate of a person who has died
The loss of a loved one is a deeply emotional experience, and there are many practical issues that must be dealt with during a period of grief. On this website, we have compiled instructions on how to smoothly handle the electricity contract of a deceased relative.
Reporting the death of a loved one to the electricity company
Electricity companies do not receive information about deaths from the Finnish Digital and Population Data Services Agency, so relatives should report the death by calling our customer service. No automatic changes will be made to the customer relationship before such notification.
When losing a loved one, everyday practical matters, such as electricity contracts, are not a priority. However, it is advisable to report the death as soon as possible so that the customer’s contract and invoicing information are up to date.
Who can take care of the contractual matters of an estate?
Beneficiaries or an administrator can handle the estate’s contractual matters. We do not require a power of attorney from the estate’s beneficiaries in order to handle the estate’s contractual matters.
Ordering a new electricity contract in the name of an estate
If you need to sign a new electricity contract in the name of the estate, you can order a new contract by calling our customer service.
Updating contract and contact information
In connection with the notification of death, the electricity contract is updated to the name of the estate. If there is no longer a need for an electricity contract, the electricity contract can also be terminated.
The contact details and invoicing information of the estate administrator are updated for the customer account so that invoices reach the correct address.
