Commissioning of Finland’s largest solar park progresses in Uusikaupunki
Helen’s solar park in Kalanti, Uusikaupunki, is nearing completion for production use. Once completed, Finland’s largest solar park will significantly increase domestic renewable electricity production and support the electrification of society and the clean transition.
The Kalanti solar park is one of Helen’s most significant renewable electricity investments in recent years. The solar park will produce more than 200 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to the yearly consumption of more than 20,000 households. The park has a capacity of 204 megawatts.
The role of electricity in Finland’s energy system is growing rapidly as electricity consumption increases, for example through the electrification of industry, transport and heating. The Kalanti solar park is a concrete example of an investment that strengthens domestic electricity production and supports the electrification of society as a whole.
“Finland’s competitiveness is increasingly built on low-emission and affordable electricity. Investments such as the Kalanti solar park strengthen the conditions for both industrial growth and new investments to locate in Finland,” says Harri Mattila, Director responsible for electricity production and energy system optimisation at Helen.
Solar power is part of a diverse and flexible electricity production structure that is an international competitive advantage for Finland. The flexibility of the energy system is also supported by, among other things, electricity storage as well as flexible production and consumption.
