You can see the price lock periods and their prices in Oma Helen, where you can lock prices according to your own needs. The first price lock periods will be available later in August. Lock periods are always full calendar months, starting on the first day of the month.
The energy price for a lock period consists of two parts:
- A fixed base energy price. You will see it in Oma Helen before you accept the price lock. This part of the price does not change during the lock period.
- The consumption effect. It arises from the combined effect of the consumption at your metering point and the exchange price, and it either raises or lowers your energy price. This way you can still influence your price during the lock period by timing your electricity use, even though the base part of the price is locked.
The monthly consumption effect is calculated in two steps. First, we calculate your exchange price for the month according to the consumption at your metering point. From this we subtract the average exchange price of all quarter-hours in the same month. If your electricity use during the month was weighted towards the cheaper moments, the consumption effect lowers your energy price. If your consumption was weighted towards the more expensive moments, the consumption effect raises the price.
In addition, the monthly fee for the Exchange Electricity contract and the monthly fee for the price lock service, €0.90/month, are invoiced for the lock period. Please note that your contract becomes fixed-term for the lock period you have chosen, starting from the moment of acceptance. When the lock period ends, your contract automatically continues as an open-ended Exchange Electricity contract.

When using the Price Lock service, the price is determined as follows:
During a Price Lock period: The price of your Exchange Electricity contract consists of the basic fee of your electricity contract, the fixed monthly fee for the Price Lock service (€/month), and the energy price for the Price Lock period (cents/kWh), which is influenced by the usage effect of your electricity consumption.
Outside Price Lock periods: The price of your Exchange Electricity contract consists of the normal pricing (basic fee, spot price for electricity and the margin) and the fixed fee for the Price Lock service (€/month).
The usage effect, which is based on your electricity consumption, affects your final energy price during a Price Lock period. For this reason, timing and optimising your electricity consumption remains important even during a Price Lock period.
The usage effect is determined by comparing the quarter-hourly prices of your electricity consumption with the monthly mean price for exchange electricity. The usage effect reduces or increases the energy price of your electricity depending on how you time your quarter-hourly electricity consumption in comparison with the monthly mean price of exchange electricity.
If you use electricity the most when the price of exchange electricity is above the monthly mean price, the usage effect will increase the energy price of your electricity. However, if you use electricity the most when the price of exchange electricity is lower than the monthly mean price, the usage effect will reduce the energy price of your electricity.
The usage effect is calculated on a monthly basis and its magnitude depends on the actual electricity consumption of the delivery site in question.
Summer is typically the cheapest time of the year for exchange electricity. For this reason, we do not recommend locking in the price during summer. Instead, you should consider it in the autumn, as electricity prices may rise when the winter season approaches. This way, you get the maximum benefit from the Price Lock option.
